MES Terminal – Smart Factory Glossary

MES terminals are devices directly connected to machines and workplaces in the shop floor. Machine operators, setup engineers, or other employees can enter data or request information on the terminal's user interface. You can directly connect MES terminals to machines via interface to automatically transfer machine data to the terminals. The other way round, MES terminals can communicate with the machine and cancel or change production orders, for example.

Contrary to office clients, MES terminals must be robust and withstand even difficult conditions including dust, dirt, splash water, shocks, or vibrations.
