Predictive Maintenance – Smart Factory Glossary

Predictive Maintenance is a concept that records and evaluates real-time production data to predict the best time to maintain machines and equipment. With Predictive Maintenance, the user can integrate any necessary maintenance activities into the production process as effectively as possible.

Benefits of Predictive Maintenance

Predictive Maintenance aims to ensure that machines and equipment are always ready to use, keep downtimes as short as possible, and avoid unplanned downtimes.

  • Predictive and regular maintenance increases the service life and extends the utilization period of machines and equipment. Investments in new equipment and the costs of unplanned downtimes can also be reduced.
  • Companies can prevent unplanned downtimes and their subsequent consequences, such as material relocations or failure to meet delivery deadlines.
  • Machine performance can be increased, and higher productivity levels secured by fully recording and evaluating the machine data in the corresponding production IT system.

Predictive Manufacturing in the Smart Factory Elements model

The Smart Factory Elements control loop illustrates which processes, functions, and applications manufacturing companies require to meet today's challenges. Prediction has a key role to play alongside the disciplines of planning & scheduling, execution, analytics, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Statistical methods and artificial intelligence allow all kinds of prognoses to be made. Typical fields of application include predictive maintenance, the extrapolation of material range or predictive quality, which can use process data and associated models to anticipate the quality of products.

Predictive Maintenance in MPDV's MES HYDRA X

The Manufacturing Execution System (MES) HYDRA X from MPDV maps Predictive Maintenance in the manufacturing app Maintenance & Service Management. The application from the HYDRA X Resource Management category supports predictive maintenance as well as other maintenance strategies such as condition-based maintenance, manual maintenance planning, and preventive maintenance. Maintenance management in MES HYDRA makes it possible to perfectly plan, implement, and monitor all maintenance activities, which is necessary to efficiently use all resources. In the end, the only way to achieve sustainability is to exploit the full potential of resources.
